Characteristics:

Brushes that are essential for being a Make-up artist:

FACE : Large Powder Brush, Foundation Brush, Concealer Brush, Blush Brushes; flat, angled, dome, blunt, Contour Brush

So what is the quality difference between ‘professional’ grade brushes and those described as ‘good quality’ manufactured for the wider market place?

Professional grade brushes are made with the highest quality materials;

• bristles made from quality animal hair; sable, pony, goat etc for very soft silky. texture or high grade synthetic materials (more ideal for some wet applications).
• handles of durable hard wood
• glued, metal wrapped, and placed to ensure minimal hair loss.

With those higher quality materials, comes a higher price point.

When makeup art is your profession, and your work is photographed at very close range and presented at high resolution via media like fashion magazines etc., it is imperative your detail and blending is impeccable.

With this in mind, paying higher price points for the highest grades of materials makes sense, since they will deliver the highest quality performance and will not need to be replaced it properly taken care of.

Various Types of Hair: sable, pony, raccoon, yellow weasel tail, goat, badger, squirrel, ox ear, synthetic.

How often you clean your brushes will vary upon how much you use them.  In between clients you should use a spray cleaner that cleans and disinfects.  Although alcohol dries out your bristles, it is highly recommended that you use it for any brush that has touched eye or mouth mucus.  Once monthly your brushes she be thoroughly cleaned with a professional cleaner and water, then left over nite to dry.  Make sure to squeeze most of the moisture out before leaving your brushes out to dry.
